Review HC-ARES VHF Net Protocol for additional information.

Prior to start of net, NCS checks for other stations requiring use of repeater/frequency. NCS checks if an alternate NCS and Net Manager are on frequency. If the ANCS is not, ask for a volunteer.

This is [FCC call sign], Net Control for the weekly Hillsborough County Amateur Radio Emergency Service Training Net. [FCC call sign] is the Alternate Net Control. If there is no ANCS, ask for a volunteer. All interested radio Amateurs are invited to participate.

This is a directed net. Any station with traffic or comments will contact net control prior to contacting another station.

Are there any stations with emergency or priority traffic? Over. If so, handle immediately! Nothing heard, Net control, [FCC call sign], clear.

If Net Manager is on frequency, Net Manager, this is net control. Are there any specific training objectives for tonight's net? Over.

Begin checkins after Net Manager clears the frequency.

When checking in, state "this is" immediately followed by your call sign using standard ITU phonetics, tactical call, and location and state "Digital" if you have FLDIGI capability and "Traffic" if you have any.

Wait about five seconds after last checkin heard to avoid missing a station. NCS then acknowledges each station that checks in with both FCC Call, assigned Tactical Call, and if it has traffic. NCS will assign tactical calls as needed. (See protocol.)

Mobile stations, check in now, over.

All other stations, check in now.

If a station has traffic, NCS asks that station to list it - precedence, destination, mode (digital, voice).

This is [FCC call sign], Net Control. Additional stations to enter the net - state "this is" immediately followed by your call sign using standard ITU phonetics, tactical call, and location and state "Digital" if you have FLDIGI capability and "Traffic" if you have any.

NCS takes appropriate action for passing the traffic

NCS calls on stations for announcements, comments, or training.

Net Control picks one of the following as appropriate:

This is Net Control closing this session of the Hillsborough County ARES Training Net.
