Statement for February 2010
By Jim Blaine, wd4jzo
Hello to all of you this fine sunny day. It has been quite some time since we have had an update on the website. You can blame me for that. I think we are making headway with it now. We have a new webmaster, Ralph Mack - K1BSB from Hudson, and he has done a great job getting the site back up to speed. Of course I have to thank Fletch and Steve for the aggravation that I put them through lately.
Where as I usually put a training topic on the EC page, I will now put my “ramblings” on it plus items I find in other newsletters. I will put our training topics on the new training page. They will be in several formats such as PDFs, DOCs, and power points. They will remain there for your reference. I hope when the site is complete that you will let me know of any additions you would like or any other changes that you would like to see. Just send me an email.
If you find a link that does not work please let us know right away so it can be fixed. I will make sure that the forms that we upload will be in a Word format so that they can be filled in and saved so that you can attach them to an email for sending. I will also post the member roster on the site but without contact info. I t will have name, call, and town only as I do not want the contact info public.
We are looking for photos of ARES in action so, when you volunteer or take part in an event or drill, or even a class, take some pictures. Save them as a JPEG of about 300dpi. That way we can have clickable thumbnails on the photo page. Be sure to label them so we know what we are looking at.
I will also make space available for announcements from our served agencies. We will post these on our main page. If you know of a class that members would be interested in please forward that info to me.
Our AECs are busy with their duties and I respectfully request that when they send you an email that you answer them. We have 54 members and they should receive 54 answers. We will be adding more AECs, Liaisons and other assistants. The AECs are also allowed to appoint assistants to help them. Just pass it by me when you do. In short, we need help. Our AECs have some very good ideas but, we need you participating to bring them to fruition.
Are there any ideas that you have for meetings or Saturday get-togethers? I do want to run a workshop in the Spring and we need to come up with a couple of drills with other groups such as MARS, MRC, Red Cross and others. Your thoughts please.
Well that is about it for this time around. We’ll let you know when and where the next Skywarn class is. We are trying to set up a Storm Survey class to coincide with it. Take care. See you at the next meeting if not sooner.
